In 2006, the championship game at the national deaf
softball tournament had four umpires. Normally
two umpires is enough.
The tournament had too many appeals because of
blown plays and bad calls by umpires throughout
the preliminary rounds. As a precaution, four
umpires were assigned to the championship game.
It did not help! A flyball was called safe by
one umpire and called out by another umpire.
This flyball trapped a runner; and one umpire
called him safe and another said out.
It took half hour by these four umpires to
sort things out.
