Henrietta Swan Leavitt (1868-1921) was a much-honored
deaf astronomer. She studied stars that would
“turn off and turn on” its lights! Her work would have
led her to a Nobel Prize. Unfortunately she passed away
of cancer before it could happen. Nobel rules do not
permit giving honors to people that have passed away.
Anyway, one of the craters on the moon has been named
after her.
