Did you know that — Audree Norton

paved the way for future deaf actresses such as Marlee Matlin
Shoshonnah Stern, Deanna Bray and others. Audree was a pioneer,
a trailblazer. She started out during the early fifties as
a TV commercial model, which led to some acting roles later
on. With voice overs she performed commercials on TV, touting
the Royal Crown Cola soft drink, popular at that time. She
had to sip so many of these soft drinks to make it perfect
for the TV commercial. As a result, she has hated this
soft drink since then, as her preference is Coca Colas!
She was outspoken when Hollywood hired hearing actresses to
play deaf roles, and the movie moguls did not like her. Yet
our deaf actresses nowadays have much to thank her.
