bored-students-of-deaf-education-classes

We see many courses on deafness, sign language, Deaf Culture,
interpreting, etc being offered at many local colleges across
the nation.
One would think that these students, both deaf and hearing,
would be eager and interested enough about deafness to learn
more about these subjects.
Maybe so. Maybe not. A prominent deaf leader complained
to DeafDigest editor that he gave a recent guest lecture
at one college, expecting live discussions and barrage of
questions.
He was faced with stony silence from the audience.
Either the leader gave such a dull lecture or the class
just wasn’t interested enough to ask questions.
Yes, there was a barrage of questions – from one
person – a hearing student who did not major in any of
these deafness disciplines but was curious enough and
walked into the lecture uninvited!
