Chopped is a popular food TV show. Chefs from everywhere
compete to win the “speed cooking” contest, using
ingredients they did not expect to use.
The only deaf chef to have competed on Chopped
is Kurt Ramborger, a self-taught chef who learned
cooking while growing up with a deaf family.
After graduating from Gallaudet, he made cooking
his passion – and after years of working at
different restaurants, he was invited to compete
on the Chopped program.
He competed against three other chefs. There are
three rounds. He survived the first round, only
to be eliminated in the second round. He had
to remove the membrane on the dish, something
he didn’t realize he had to do it! While
on the program he told the audience that a chef
does not need ears to cook.
The competition took place in 2013.
