deaf-faces-in-sports-magazine

Over the years Sports Illustrated has had many
deaf faces in its Faces in the Crowd page.

The first deaf athlete to appear in that section
was Kentucky School for the Deaf football player
Tony Gilbert in a 1962 edition.

Gilbert was honored for spearheading his
football team to an unbeaten and unscored
upon season with a record of 6-0-0.

Gilbert was not bing as football players are.
He was tiny, probably 5-6 tall and 150 lbs.
