DEAF HIRING THE DEAF
Many years ago at the Firestone Tire and Rubber
Company, a deaf executive was responsible for hiring
the deaf. These were the days when human resources
department was simply called the personnel office.
His guidelines to hire or not to hire the deaf
was simple – the applicant must be able to read
a minimum set of written instructions and know
enough math to make out a time card.
Hiring conditions have changed. The deaf in the
past needed jobs as much as the deaf nowadays do.
