deaflympics-theft-of-ten-gold-medals

Ten gold medals were stolen from deaf swimmer Jeff Float
who won that many swimming golds at the 1977 Deaflympics!

It happened on the team bus in Casablanca. Jeff stashed
his medals on an overhead rack thinking it would be
safe. The bus driver told him the bus is locked
overnight. Jeff went to his hotel room and
slept well.

Next morning, these medals were gone. Jeff was
distraught. The sponsoring organization, the
American Athletic Association of the Deaf,
had these ten medals duplicated with the help
of deaf craftsmen. They said the duplicated
medals looked much better than the actual
gold medals!

It was suspected that the thief hocked these
medals at a Casablanca pawnshop.
