A school for the deaf versus Detroit Tigers

Could a baseball team at a school for the deaf
play the Detroit Tigers in a game? It happened
in 1897 when the Detroit Tigers stopped at
Knoxville, expecting to play against University
of Tennessee in a pre-season game. There was
a scheduling conflict with the college team,
forcing the Tigers to look around for a last
minute opponent. That was why the Tigers asked
to play against the Tennessee School for the Deaf.
While the Tigers won 6-0, everyone was happy
with the outcome.
