There is a Dummy Hoy myth.

Some people think he went to Gallaudet and played
baseball there, hence the reason for naming the
baseball field after him.

He never went to Gallaudet. After graduating from
Ohio School for the Deaf he embarked on a long
baseball career.

Gallaudet founded baseball as a new sport in
1895. Hoy began his professional baseball
career in 1886, nine years earlier.
