People working with the deaf are evaluated on their sign
language skills. There are 11 different levels of skills.

These levels are:

Superior Plus
Superior
Advanced Plus
Advanced
Intermediate Plus
Intermediate
Survival Plus
Survival
Novice Plus
Novice
No Functional Skills

 

 
Intermediate means average. Advanced is good but not the best

It is like evaluators using flash cards in diving, gymnastics,
figure skating – you see these 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 etc scores
