Location:       Georgia School for the Deaf, 232 Perry Farm Road, SW, Cave Spring, Georgia 30124

Program/Unit:   State Schools/Office of Policy and External Affairs
Description of Duties:  Identifies and works with at risk secondary students (potential high school drop-outs);
assesses school and student needs; develops/coordinates appropriate interventions; works with staff, parents, and the
community; manages and analyzes/disaggregates student test data; enters, retrieves, presents and reports data
electronically; utilizes written and oral communication skills; provides training and support to teachers of at-risk
high school students.  THIS POSITION WORKS WITH THE STUDENTS AFTER SCHOOL.  HOURS ARE MONDAY THRU THURSDAY 12:30
p.m-9:00 p.m., FRIDAY 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; must possess or be eligible to obtain
certification in Teaching, Leadership, Service (School Counseling, School Psychology, and/or School Social Work) or
Paraprofessional from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission; three years experience in secondary schools in one
or a combination of the areas above; American Sign language proficiency at the “Advanced Level” as measured by the Sign
Communication Proficiency Instrument

Preferred Qualifications:       Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum
qualifications, possess one or more of the following: • Meet the “Highly Qualified” provision of the federal No Child
Left Behind Act. • Possesses or eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Teacher Certification in
the area Hearing Impaired • Experience teaching students with hearing impairments • Sign language proficiency at the
“Intermediate Level” or above as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Instrument

Salary/Benefits:        This is a 10-month position (200-days) paid on 12-month basis according to the Georgia Teacher

Salary Schedule; salary based on teaching certification and creditable years of experience. Benefit options include
life, disability, dental, vision, and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers
Retirement.
