hearing-people-avoiding-voice-relay-calls

A deaf supervisor at a hearing work place reported an
unpleasant incident. A hearing assistant to the deaf
supervisor was not able to come into work one morning
and conveyed this message with the office temp.
The deaf supervisor, puzzled at this end-around,
confronted the hearing assistant.
The hearing assistant said he didn’t like using
the TTY relay, preferring straight hearing-to-hearing
voice calls.
The deaf supervisor gave an ultimatum – do use the
TTY relay system from now on when reporting absences
from the office.
The hearing assistant stayed angry for one week
until he calmed down.
Sighed the deaf supervisor “It’s still a rough world
out there for deaf people.”
