henry-whitney-deaf-postmaster

Henry Whitney, who was deaf, was the postmaster of the Hawaiian Kingdom
(years before Hawaii became a new state of the USA). This Kingdom issued
its own postal stamps, and Whitney served as the postmaster twice in
the years to come, first in 1850 and then second, 27 years later.
As the postmaster he helped design one of the most expensive postage
stamps ever. His boss was the Minister of Interior.
