honest-or-insulting-professor

A hearing professor of psychology at a big university
made it his project to read as many books about the
deaf and of deafness. His goal was to list down as
many phrases that these authors “label” the deaf.

He listed many phrases – but to make it short,
these were:

competitive
disobedient
immature
isolated
language poor
naive
unintelligent
aggressive
stubborn
suspicious
moody
paranoid

this list goes on and on

Are these such phrases correct? What the hearing
professor did not mention was that hearing people
are also labelled with these same phrases! So,
why point the finger at the deaf?

DeafDigest editor had the occassion to have a
face to face discussion with that professor.

Questions such as:
why do some deaf people have hard time finding jobs?

why do some deaf people have problems with the police?

why do some deaf people lack counseling on mental health?

This professor was clueless!
