During the opening day ceremonies of the
2001 Deaflympics in Rome, Italy, the Italian
host (a hearing person) gave a welcome
speech to those in the audience.
Only one thing went wrong. The interpreters
were nowhere to be found!
An enraged Donalda Ammons, an American and
an officer with the CISS, the Deaflympics
governing body, got up and walked to the
platform and unplugged the audio machine!
The speaker was stunned. But he realized
the point was made.
