internet-pioneer-was-deaf

Vint Cerf, who is deaf, but functions as a hearing
person, had a big role during internet’s early days.

Before the internet became popular, he worked as a
programmer with the ARPANET, a top secret project
under the auspices of the Defense Advanced Research
Project Agency. The goal of the ARPANET was to
split itself into many computers, in case a
terrorist group destroyed one computerm, the rest
of the network would continue. Over the years during
the seventies and eighties ARPANET slowly evolved
into the internet.

After leaving the ARPANET group, Vint worked for
a number of telecommunications companies as a
consultant and as a high tech futurist.

For a short time, he served on the Gallaudet
board of trustees.
