Laurel Glass passed away some years back. No one listened
to her.

She was hard of hearing and was a long time professor at
University of California at San Francisco, specializing in
deafness. And she served on the Gallaudet board of trustees.

Her footnote was a hugely symbolic gesture that endeared her
to the Deaf Community. As a Gallaudet trustee, she was outvoted
by other trustees that wanted the new president to be a hearing
person. This led to the famous Deaf President Now mass protest
by Gallaudet students that rocked the world in the late eighties
and forced the new president to resign almost immediately.

Had her colleagues on the board of trustees listened to her
we would never have had that Deaf President Now protest.
