INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
POSITION: DESKTOP & SYSTEMS SUPPORT SPECIALIST
(PRIMARILY MAC ENVIRONMENT)
DEFINITION: The Learning Center for the Deaf, a Preschool to 12th grade
school for deaf and hard of hearing, is located on 14 acres in
beautiful North Framingham. This technologically complex
school is looking for a fourth full time IT member to help take
on the many daily challenges. If you wish to work at one of the
finest schools for the deaf in the country with a seasoned IT
department, doing interesting and meaningful work, this is your
opportunity.
REQUIREMENTS:
• College Degree in Computer Science, Computer
Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent experience.
• The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to work
independently, a supportive team player, and an excellent
communicator. Must also have excellent troubleshooting
skills, with confidence and motivation to acquire, and
implement solutions.
• Must have a thorough, working knowledge of hardware and
software products primarily from Apple, Inc. — including
Macintosh OS-X servers, Open Directory Management, iCal
syncing, Wiki & Blog publishing, File Share Services, etc.,
desktop and laptop computers, iPads, iPhones, and iPod
Touch. Familiarity with UNIX command-line programming.
Knowledge of Windows and Unix servers, and email system
administration is also a plus.
• Flexibility is an important element of this position. Must
have the ability to support computer-related technologies
such as Interactive White Boards, digital cameras (video and
still) — as well as audio-visual setups including LCD
projection equipment, public address systems, etc.
• Apple Certification as an Authorized Repair Technician is
desired.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position performs a wide range of duties providing computer technical support for staff
at all levels of the organization and for all educational and residential programs including:
Maintenance and troubleshooting of a multiple servers, including Mac OS-X, Linux, and
Windows servers.
Install and maintain computers and related hardware, as well as software.
Perform diagnostic testing and trouble-shooting of hardware and software.
Manage the backup system, including creating jobs, monitoring and reporting on backup jobs,
performing restores, and managing onsite media rotation.
Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance with the organization’s computer systems,
and related technologies. Identify problems, troubleshoot and provide solutions to assist users.
Work on a variety of projects and requests involving computer setup and configuration,
upgrades, work tracking, research, documentation, inventory, end user training, and
communication with vendors for product evaluations and support. Participate in strategic
planning and budget planning and tracking.
Oversee the Audio-visual needs of the school.
Some evening and weekend work may be required for special activities.
