Job Title:      Teacher (Blind/Deaf) – Literacy Content Specialist

Program/Unit:   State Schools/Office of Policy and External Affairs
Description of Duties:  Analyzes and identifies students’ instructional
needs in order to develop and implement a comprehensive schoolwide
literacy program. Assists teachers with the development of appropriate
lesson plans that develop student literacy and reflect the Georgia
Performance Standards. Provides leadership, training and expertise in the
assigned content area. Establishes and maintains effective communication
between the instructional and residential staff. Collaborates with the
Director and Assistant Director for Instruction. Displays a high level of
effort and commitment to the vision/mission of DOE. Monitors and documents
literacy initiatives. Represents the schools at meetings and on
committees. Participates in professional learning activities.
Minimum Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Teacher
Certification in the area of reading, literature, deaf education, school
leadership, elementary and/or secondary education. Sign language
proficiency at the “Intermediate Level” or above as measured by the Sign
Language Proficiency Instrument is required.

Preferred Qualifications:       Preference will be given to applicants
who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or
more of the following: • Possesses or eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher
Certification in the area of Interrelated Special Education or Learning
Disabilities • Three years of experience teaching deaf and hard of hearing
students • Sign language proficiency at the “Advanced Level” as measured
by the Sign Language Proficiency Interview

Salary/Benefits:        This is a 10-month position (210-days) paid on
12-month basis according to the Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule; salary
based on teaching certification and creditable years of experience.

insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers
Retirement.
