long-time-deaf-auto-racer

No one remembers who was Donald Breen. Deaf himself, he
was an auto racer at local midwest racing tracks, his
long career beginning in 1953 and ending sometime in
the eighties.
Old time hearing racing fans would remember him, but
in the deaf community, many did not know who he was.
He had to fight his way to be able to race cars
owned by hearing owners because they felt deaf cannot
drive cars, let alone racing these cars!
Has he ever raced against deaf drivers? He said
never.
Hearing fans loved him and they would light up
their cigarette lighters during night races as
a way to praise him for his racing efforts.
