Marvin Marshall, while a student at Gallaudet, won the
1945 Washington, DC Golden Gloves Boxing championship.
He had been boxing all his life before enrolling at
Gallaudet and just continued boxing in local DC
The win qualified him for the National Golden Gloves
championship at the Madison Square Garden in New
York. He won his first match but lost his next
match and was eliminated.
By the time he graduated, he already had nearly
600 career matches. He had no interest in turning
professional and turned down all pro boxing
offers. He never again boxed after graduation.
