When deaf sports leaders were ready to set up the
first USA national deaf skiing team during the
sixties, hearing skiing leaders all pointed their
fingers at one deaf skier – Tammy Marcinuk.
Fitchburg, MA. These deaf leaders, at that
time, never heard of her, but she was quite
well known in the New England skiing
She earned many medals and awards, defeating
hearing skiers at many skiing events.
She was the “franchise” of the USA Deaf
Skiing program – taking part in Deaflympics
six times in a 24-year span, winning a total
of five golds, competing against Europe’s
best deaf skiers.
