Top stories about the deaf:
Chris Fonseca, who is deaf, has been wowing the British
TV audiences on the “The Greatest Dancer” program.
Nebraska state senator Sara Howard introduced
bill LB 248, which would change the wording
“hearing impaired” to “deaf and hard of hearing”
in state law books. Since the state has only
one house (unlike two houses in all other states)
it is now up to the governor sign the bill into law.
The deaf community staged a protest outside of the
Efata School For The Blind And Deaf in Zaire. A
staff member shouted the word “stupid” at someone
else, but not directed at the deaf. Yet, the deaf
people said the word was an insult anyway, hence
the reason for the protest.
Massachusetts dispatchers are now accepting
911 texts from the deaf community.
In South Australia, there will be a six-month
trial with the driverless shuttle. Inside the
shuttle is a sign language kiosk to help
deaf passengers? DeafDigest is concerned
about deaf passengers from other nations not
being able to use that kiosk!

OLD DEAF BOOKS AT OLD BOOKSTORES
From time to time DeafDigest editor likes to go
to private bookstores (not Barnes & Noble or Borders)
to look for interesting used books to buy.
And it is surprising to find deaf books at these
old bookstores.
He bought a deaf sports book at Cooperstown, NY
bookstore, which is near the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Also an old AAAD basketball tournament program
book at a Los Angeles bookstore. And also Doug Bullard’s
novel – Islay at a Philadelphia bookstore.

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:
Huge snowstorms are about to dump lots of snow on Northern
New England and the Midwest.
Up to 2 feet are expected in my area!  It is exciting for people
who ski or snowshoe.
For some it is concern.  Being DeafBlind we might have limited
access to transportation.
Even if we walk, it might be a hardship since our cane might not
give us enough information.
Friends, neighbors and family, please check on your DeafBlind friends.
Ensure that they are safe and have food and drinks on hand.
Enjoy the snow!
Rene’s show business started in year 2010 and it focuses on the
Deaf-Blind.
