just benefit the deaf, but also benefits the hearing,
hence a win-win situation.

in Great Britain is so critical that they are often

A CELLPHONE AT A DEAF BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
We, the deaf use text pagers; hearing people use
voice cell phones.
At one deaf schools basketball tournament, one of the
players from a residential school for the deaf was using
his cell phone. He was not using it to send text messages;
he was using it to communicate by voice.
People at the tournament were surprised. That player
was hard of hearing and was able to hear the voice on
the cell phone.
Guess not every cell phone user is a hearing
person!

BE CAREFUL OF STATISTICS
England says it has 9 million deaf and hard of hearing
people. The English population is about 62 million
people. That would mean about 16 percent of the population
are either deaf or hard of hearing?
Do we believe it? No, because the percentage is too high.
But wait – England also says 6.5 million deaf and
hard of hearing people are at age 60 and above.
That means England has 2.5 million deaf people and
6.5 million late deafened people.
Statistics is easy to fool and to misunderstand
so be careful with it.

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:
There is helpful technology out there such as ZoomText for low vision
consumers.
ZoomText created a keyboard with pre-programed buttons which work great.
Now, the newer model does not come with the pre-programed buttons.
Trying to teach consumers short cuts that require several steps to adjust
the settings is frustrating.
I asked the company who makes ZoomText products to reconsider those
keyboards again.
I personally use ZoomText with the older model which has a much easier
method to adjust settings.
Advocate to get those pre-programmed buttons returned to the market!
Rene’s show business started in year 2010 and it focuses on the
Deaf-Blind.
