Top stories about the deaf:
Miha Zupan, a deaf European basketball player,
still playing professionally at the age of 35,
is into a new venture – Do Stars Dance? It
is a popular European TV program, on the same
level with Dancing with Stars in USA.
A job coach, in a newspaper interview, said
deaf employees need to master “soft” skills
such as interviewing, accepting criticism,
getting along with hearing employees and
even emailing the boss of work absence and
arriving late for work, etc.
The Virginia Statewide lnteragency Team
is staging a workshop on Emergency
Preparedness in the Deaf Community.
Some nations recognize many languages, including
sign language as official. What is interesting
in New Zealand was that sign language was
described as the nation’s least known
official language – according to a newspaper
story.
A disability-related survey of people at
Sacramento State University, testing
their attitudes towards the disabled –
was not well received by the deaf.

DEAF PEOPLE THAT CANNOT COMMUNICATE
In Uganda, a nation in Africa, there is a group
of deaf people that cannot communicate – they do not
know sign language; they cannot read and write; and
they do not know how to gesture properly.
This makes it frustrating for police officers
and social workers that want to communicate with them.
This is a sad situation in Uganda.

DEAF GIFT DANGER WITH SOME HEARING PEOPLE
A deaf person is proud of his Rolex watch
and shows it to the hearing friend.
The hearing friend wants to take a closer
look at it. The deaf man takes it off his
wrist and gives it to him.
The deaf man used the wrong gesture and
the hearing person thought it was a free
gift for him.
There was an almost fight before the
hearing person realized Rolex was not a gift!

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:
We recently replaced all our our appliances.
My wife has been searching the right stove with knobs in the front.
That feature is important for me as DeafBlind person to avoid the need of
putting my head under the range hood (Hansel and Gretel image)!
Now I have to relearn all the new settings on all the appliances. Using an
electronic magnifier to read the panel is one step.
For the microwave oven and hood combo, it will need “bumps”. They are
sticker bumps that some people call Braille but really they are simple
bumps for us to know where we are on the options panel.
The oven? I have to figure out the oven features since they are digital!
Rene’s show business started in year 2010 and it focuses on the
Deaf-Blind.
