Top stories about the deaf:

The Big 12 Conference donated money to help refurbish
the gymnasium at Kansas School for the Deaf. Other
corporate partners also made contributions.

The Tokyo District Court ordered the Kyokuto-kai
organized crime gang to pay huge amounts of money
for extorting a group of deaf people. They sued
and won.

In Kenya, being deaf is a big deal of shame,
according to a deaf visitor that is trying to
give deaf Kenyans a sense of empowerment.

The art exhibit, part of the “Justice Can’t Wait: Deaf People of Color Seeking Change Through the Arts” showing featured a deaf woman
covering lower part of her face. This was in
reference to discrimination that deaf women
deal with. It was featured at CSUN.

There was a story about the Boeing Deaf
Employees and Friends group in the aircraft
plant. Goal is to empower the deaf Boeing
employees.

LONG LINE OF DEAF PEOPLE WAITING FOR HOTEL BUS
True story about 40 years ago. At a national
deaf basketball tournament, a bus brought deaf
fans from the hotel to the tournament gym.
One night after the games were over, there
was a long line of deaf people waiting for the
bus.
They waited for almost one hour before the
bus finally arrived.
Why was the wait long? Because the tournament
committee was broke and had no money. The bus
drivers wanted to be paid first or they won’t
pick up deaf fans!

DEAF SOAP OPERA
The ABCFamily network is supposed to show only family
friendly TV programs. Yet there are accusations that
the Switched at Birth is more of a Soap Opera than
as a Family Friendly TV show.
They are saying that if it is really a soap opera
then it should be moved to these daytime soap opera
channels.
There were many plots on the Switched at Birth
episodes that are not appropriate for viewers of the
ABCFamily network.

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:

Pouring cooking oil into a pan is getting difficult for me as a DeafBlind person.

I wok-fry my vegetables frequently.

I need to pour a drop or two into the wok.

Several times I end up with too much oil!

I could have been deep frying French fries!

I found a remedy!

I use a small jar with a spray nozzle with cooking
oil/olive oil in it!

No more deep frying!

Rene’s show business started in year 2010 and it focuses on the
Deaf-Blind.
