In 1879, a group of young hearing men played a pick up
soccer game against boys from the Doncaster School for the Deaf
in Great Britain. The game ended in a tie. After the game, the
hearing players went to a pub for drinks and snacks. After
chatting for quite some time, they agreed to establish
Doncaster Rovers Football Club. This club has been a long time
member of the British professional soccer circuit – some
years in 2nd division; some years in 3rd division and other
years in 4th division but still at it in pro soccer.
