Roberto Wirth, deaf owner of Hotel Hassler, Rome, Italy
Hotel Hassler, in Rome, Italy, is considered one of the world’s
best hotels. The owner, Roberto Wirth, is deaf. He came from
a family of hoteliers, and it was his dream to own and operate
a fine hotel.
His family did not encourage him for one reason – his deafness.
Roberto would not give up; he worked in restaurants and in
hotels all over the world – in an effort to convince his family
he was very much capable of operating a hotel.
In 1982, his dream was achieved. To this day he continues
to operate the hotel; he has received many honors and
awards for his work in the hotel field.
