This is Johnny Maulbetsch, Michigan football star during the mid-1910’s and enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Before facing Michigan in a big 1916 football game, Cornell scouts noticed the quarterback tapping Johnny on the shoulder each time he was to carry the ball. The Cornell tacklers then watched for the shoulder-tapping and stopped him in the game. Did Johnny hide his deafness? Sports writers said he was somewhat deaf!
