John Arenberg, who is deaf but does not use sign language,
was the Sports Information Director at Emory University
in Georgia during the 1990’s and 2000’s.

He did everything that sports information directors
were supposed to do – reporting game results, arranging
media passes, responding to questions from the media
on top Emory athletes, etc.

He had a group of interns and student assistants
working for him over the years, and they took care
of communications that he couldn’t handle.

While he loved sports, he left the sports information
profession, citing professional burnout and desire
to move on to other areas.
