During the 1950 high school sports season, the state department
of education tried to ban Texas School for the Deaf from
participating in sports against hearing opponens. They
said deaf were defectives. Fortunately the ban was
overturned by legal action.
Calling the deaf defectives in Texas was strange because
the 1947 Texas SD football team was almighty, winning
all games, and scoring over 500 points, possibly as
the greatest deaf football team ever.
