Dewey Deer, who only played Gallaudet football
two seasons (1917 and 1918) was a hard hitting
running back and linebacker. Opponent St John’s
College (Annapolis, MD) refused to play Gallaudet
in 1919 because they were afraid of him.

Gallaudet had to tell St John’s, in writing,
that Deer left Gallaudet after the 1918 season
and was no longer playing football. St. John’s
after reading the letter, agreed to play
Gallaudet in 1919.

Without Deer, Gallaudet still won 6-0!
