Chris Smallwood, who played two seasons of football
at Gallaudet, was an unusual transfer.

He played as a freshman at Gallaudet, and then
transferred to a college in Oklahoma to play two
seasons.

With just one season of eligibilty remaining, he
returned to Gallaudet to play for them again!

He saved Gallaudet from a certain defeat in
his senior season (early 1990’s). The
score was a 7-7 tie against Jersey City
State with one more play remaining in the
game. Jersey City set up for an “easy”
field goal attempt near the Gallaudet goal
line. If the ball went through, Gallaudet would
have lost 10-7.

Instead Smallwood stormed through the middle
to block the kick to make the game a tie.
There as no overtime rule at that time.

At Gallaudet, he played everywhere on the line
on both sides of the ball, plus some as
fullback.
