unusual-switch-of-collegiate-sports

Laura Edwards currently supervises athletics at
California School for the Deaf at Riverside.

As a young woman attending college years ago,
her sport was swimming. Attending University
of Puget Sound on a partial swimming scholarship,
she swam for three seasons. As a sophomore she
was a honorable mention NAIA All-American. As
a junior she captained the swimming team.

After her junior season, she was burned out
by swimming, and gave up her swimming scholarship,
and transferred to NTID.

She transferred back to University of Puget Sound
and made the women’s basketball team. She
played college basketball for two seasons,
earning a partial basketball scholarship
as a senior!

Since then she’s been all basketball, as a
coach, as a player and as an administrator.

The switch from varsity swimming for three
seasons to varsity basketball for two seasons
is indeed, an unusual, but a successful
switch.
