THE LEARNING CENTER FOR THE DEAF
WALDEN SCHOOL
POSITION: RELIEF/SUBSTITUTE/TEMP CHILD CARE WORKER

DEFINITION: Responsible for the direct care and safety of the children residing at
Walden School.


REQUIREMENTS:
• Training or degree in Human Service Field.
• Understanding of mental health and children’s issues.
• 1 to 2 years in direct child care experiences.
• A second language fluency in ASL; Understanding of mental
health and children’s issues.

SUPERVISOR: Child Care Supervisor.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adheres to Walden School Policies and Procedures.

SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN
Supervises children in daily routines and assists with the activities of daily living skills.
Demonstrates flexibility and creativity intervening with children using methods, which
reflect the treatment philosophy of Walden School.
Provides students with a level of supervision consistent with the treatment plan and the
Walden School safety policies.

CASE MANAGEMENT
Conveys all pertinent information concerning students to other staff via e-mail, logs and
incident reports.
Transports children as needed.
Utilizes physical interventions consistent with the Professional Assault Response Training
program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically able to perform all duties including restraining assaultive students
when necessary, pursuing running students and participating in sports and recreation
activities with students. Job may also include prolonged standing, frequently lifting up to
50 pounds, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above shoulder level as
well as reacting quickly to minimize escalating behavioral outbursts.
