The Deaf World Basseball championship was a
one-time event, in July 2000, that took place
at the Gallaudet baseball field and at a
public stadium in Maryland.
Five national teams took part – USA, Canada,
Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela. Japan and
Korea, both baseball loving nations,
wanted to come but couldn’t.
USA defeated Cuba in the championship finals.
Despite hopes for future world championship
baseball events, it was not to be. Lack of
funds and logistical issues prevented this
championship from taking place again.
