The Sterner twins, Mike and John, were head wrestling coaches
with rival colleges in past years and both have been
inducted into their university athletic hall of fames.

They were deaf but functioned as hearing and they downplayed
their hearing losses.

Mike Sterner coached at Southwest State University in Minnesota;
he coached his wrestling team to 255 dual meet wins in 29
seasons (1969-98). For a few years during the seventies he
also coached the football team – but wrestling was his
primary sport. He has already been inducted into the NAIA
hall of fame.

John Sterner coached at Minnesota State University Moorhead,
posting a career record of 137-92-1 (1988-2003). Like
with brother Mike, he has been inducted into the university
athletic hall of fame.

It is not known if both brothers faced each other
in a dual meet, since Southwest State University
was a NAIA program and Minnesota State University
Moorhead is a NCAA program.
