— a deaf character on the EastEnders
EastEnders is a British soap opera, aired on TV
since 1985. It is the most popular TV program in
Great Britain. The program re-runs are shown on
some American cable networks. An on and off character
over the years is Ben. It was mentioned in the British
press today that Ben wears a hearing aid, becoming deaf
because of meningitis. This is the first time there
is deafness on the program.
— Macys anti-deaf
Macys is one of the world’s most famous department
stores. And is it anti-deaf? A deaf woman who went
to Macys for many years to buy things, had her
purse stolen, including her credit cards. She was
able to get replacement cards with all of her
credit cards – except – for Macys! They told her
to talk to a customer service person on voice
telephone. She has repeatedly tried to explain
to Macys about her deafness and each time Macys
has refused to deal with her! This Macys store
is in Connecticut. Not even a TV ombudsman was
able to help her.
