Andrew S. Grove was born deaf, but never learned ASL nor mingled
with the deaf. He chose to function as a hearing person with
the help of his limited receptive listening skills. Born in
Europe, he emigrated to USA, learned English quickly and
enrolled at City College of New York. Years later he got
involved with computers, built up Intel from a start up
into a world-wide corporate power. He was a fierce
competitior, always pushing Intel into the front of
the field. As for his deafness, he never wanted it
be publicly known, always afraid his competitors
would take advantage of it. He passed away earlier
in 2016.
