During the 1990’s, the New Mexico Lobos basketball club
took part in several national deaf basketball tournaments.

This club created so much controversy because it consisted
of players that knew no sign language. Everyone was skeptical
of their “hearing losses” despite audiograms indicating
their deafness.

A deaf man founded the club. He posted a wanted ad in
New Mexico newspapers, asking for deaf and hearing impaired
basketball players. That was how he was able to recruit
these players.

No one knew if these audiograms were real or faked.
