For a few months, a deaf person went to his favorite
restaurant and would always point to the table he
preferred to sit.
The hostess, who was an immigrant, got angrier
and angrier. She thought the pointing was rude and
was mocking her English accent.
She did not realize until later that the person
was deaf and could not speak at all.
The funny thing was that the deaf person was always
using ASL with his company at the table, and the hostess
did not realize it was sign language!

Not one of them replied to my email request!

Is there a stigma against DeafBlind consumers or services?
Are interpreting agencies and Interpreter Training Programs
geared up to support the DeafBlind community? Are volunteer
or internship opportunities working with the DeafBlind an
integral part of ITPs or agencies and organizations for/of
the Deaf?

Teach three or four courses per semester in the broad areas of
Deaf cultural studies, structure of American Sign Language and

Valid PA Driver’s License required.

Teachers of the Deaf are preferred to enter a master’s level with
some experience.  The minimum requirement for this position is a
Bachelor’s level degree with certification in Deaf Education.  PA
Instructional I or II certification in Deaf Education required.

The Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for this position
is “Advanced”.  The minimum level accepted at hire is “Intermediate”.

Description:                   The Assistant Vice President provides
administrative, operational, financial and programmatic leadership
for the Pittsburgh sites of PAHrtners.  Under the direction of the
Vice President for Residential services, The Assistant Vice President
is responsible for the overall supervision and management of
operations and personnel, expansion of services provided in the
region, quality of service and financial stability within the

administrative and communication skills, both in person and in

Qualifications:               Minimum of a HS diploma + 3 years’
