Top stories about the deaf:
Students at University of Delaware, that
wanted to take ASL classes, are complaining
that these courses are not available.
A social service group in Uganda said that
the deaf people are the most underserved
in the nation.
The “Sign of the Thymes” restaurant in Glendale,
Arizona is owned by sing-language fluent owners.
They communicate the orders in sign language placed
by deaf patrons. It was written up in a
video story.
Many deaf females in India are not able to
file criminal complaints with the police
– for one reason, no interpreters at
police stations. This is sad.
Egidio Giacomo Cosmi passed away; he was a local
Philadelphia deaf leader that not too many outsiders
knew about – establishing a deaf social club,
operating a local restaurant, master carpenter,
storyteller in a mixture of ASL and Italian
Sign Language and so on.

DEAF PERSON A REAL FRIEND OR NOT A REAL FRIEND?
At a workplace, a deaf person and a hearing person
are friends. The deaf person taught the hearing person
sign language so they both can communicate.
But away from work, the deaf person avoids the hearing
person. Even at parties, the deaf person avoids the
hearing person.
The frustrated hearing person at the party tries to
talk to the deaf person. But the deaf person, with eyes
shifting, tries to get away from the hearing person.
But at the work place, everything is fine. Why?

A FRUSTRATED DEAF ENGINEER
A deaf man earned a degree in engineering at a hearing
university. He had no luck finding a good job in engineering,
and was forced to work in low paying jobs.
He said:
Communications is the problem. Engineers work together as a
team and they communicate all the time. They won’t write
on paper for me or use gestures with me.

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:
IP-Relay is the only accessible service for individuals who are DeafBlind.
It can be downloaded as an app to our iPhone, iPad and computer to make
relay calls.
The FCC is proposing a lower per minute rate for IP-Relay.
Sprint is the only carrier that offers IP-Relay since others dropped the
service in the past.
Now Sprint is threatening to drop IP-Relay service if FCC approves the
lower reimbursement rate.
This is very concerning for us who are DeafBlind as we want to be able to
make phone calls and we need access to making emergency calls!
Rene’s show business started in year 2010 and it focuses on the
Deaf-Blind.
