INTERPRETING DEPARTMENT
POSITION: STAFF INTERPRETER
REQUIREMENTS:
• TLC interpreters must adhere to the RID code of professional
conduct. Likewise, they must have completed an interpretertraining
program, or have demonstrated equivalent experience
determined by the interpreting director.
• Any prospective candidate must be E.I.P.A. certified, hold a state
interpreting license or national certification within one year of hire.
• A valid drivers license and a clean driving record as determined by
Human Resources is required.
SUPERVISOR: Director of Interpreting Services
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
TLC staff interpreters will provide interpreting services at TLC in support of TLC’s educational
mission.
Interpreting assignments can range from but are not limited to administrative meetings, student
and parent conferences, educational mainstreaming, in-services, mental health situations,
IEP/ISP meetings, guest lectures, field trips, performing arts and formal ceremonies.
TLC staff interpreters will be assigned additional departmental duties which ay include but are
not limited to clerical work, transportation of students and interpreter mentoring.
INTERPRETING DEPARTMENT VISION STATEMENT: The Learning Center’s
Interpreting Department provides high quality interpreting services through our wide range of
abilities to the entire TLC community. Interpreters have a strong sense of professionalism and
ethics. As a team we are cognizant of how individual decisions affect the community, we support
and respect one another. We are allies striving for the unified goal of communication access for
anyone who is visiting, working or being educated at The Learning Center.
Your employment with The Learning Center for the Deaf is a voluntary one and is subject to termination by you or The Learning Center for the Deaf at will, with or without cause, and with or
without notice, at any time. Nothing in these policies shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way the employment-at-will status of The Learning Center for the
Deaf employees.
This policy of employment-at-will may not be modified by any officer or employee and shall not be modified in any publication or document. The only exception to this policy is a written
employment agreement approved at the discretion of the President or the Board of Directors, whichever is applicable.
