-- a deaf film that is very funny
Want to watch a deaf film that is very funny? The movie
"La Famille Bélier" is a French film that is being shown
at the Alliance Française French Film Festival in Paris
next week. It is about the only hearing child, a 16-year
old girl, in an all-deaf family. The family owns a
dairy farm and the plot, according to critics, is
supposed to be funny. DeafDigest does not know if
the movie is subtitled in English or if the actors
are deaf or fake-deaf or if the family communicates
via sign language (real or fake) or if it is oral.
Also don't know if it is a full length film or a
short film. Just have to find out.
-- a deaf woman in a surprise business
Dogs bark. Dogs whine. Dogs cry. Dogs get angry
when their bones are stolen. Hearing dog owners
can hear. Deaf dog owners can't hear. Well, could
a deaf person own a dog kennel? It was learned
that Mary Jo Gray, who is deaf, is the owner
of the Cornerstone Acres Luxury Boarding & Spa
in Holly, Michigan. Is she the only deaf owner
of a dog kennel? Don't know. Is she the first
deaf person to own a dog kennel? Again, don't
know - but DeafDigest is glad to see a deaf
person involved in the operations of a dog
kennel!
-- a bill introduced to allow deaf to serve in Air Force
Could a deaf person serve in the military (Army, Navy,
Air Force, Marines)? Efforts by the deaf to serve
have been turned down in recent years. Rep. Mark Takano, D-CA
has introduced a bill to allow 15-20 young deaf people
to serve in the Air Force. This is interesting - why not
Army or Navy or Marines? Will this bill succeed? Almost
all bills die in the House of Representatives.
