- an all-deaf workforce in India

From time to time we read in the newspapers about European
and Asian employers hiring only the deaf - an example is
an all-deaf fast food restaurant staff.

The latest one is an all-deaf package delivery company
in Mumbai, India. Mumbai is the financial capital of
India - the same way New York's Wall Street is the
financial capital of USA

- finally, after 11 years, the CI works in one ear

A British woman had her CI 11 years ago. The CI did not work
in one ear. She had to wait 11 years before finally getting
an appointment with a CI center.

Why 11 years? The CI doctor did not have the CI serial
number or the CI information, or the software was wrong,
etc, etc.

Finally after 11 years of different excuses she was
able to get an appointment to finally turn on the CI.

Hard to believe? Yes!

- YouTube finally captioning its videos???

Is Youtube finally captioning its videos?

Youtube gave this announcement as follows:

Google is rolling out big improvements to its YouTube automatic captions.
The search giant says the changes have already cut errors by one-fifth.
You can access the tool by clicking on the little .cc. button on most
YouTube videos and selecting Transcribe Audio.Google software engineer Ken
Harrenstien, who is deaf, says the software was released before it was
perfected because there are some situations in which it is very accurate
or at least very helpful. Google says people have watched video with
automatic captions more than 23 million times. If your do a Google search
on a phrase that happens to be in the middle of a video, Google will take
you directly to that place in the video.

Does DeafDigest believe Youtube?

Just wait and see.

- New Hampshire hospital fined $100,000 for not providing
interpreters

The Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire
reached agreement with Department of Justice to pay
$100,000 for not providing interpreters for deaf patients.

The hospital ignored its own policy to provide for
interpreters! This is why the fine was so high.
