-- a tale of a past ambulance driver who was deaf
A deaf man was a former ambulance driver. How did
he get that job? It was during World War II; the
regular driver left to serve in the war. Because
many young hearing men also served, there was a
serious labor shortage in all jobs. That was how
the deaf man got that job as an ambulance driver.
He said it was a 24-hour job; the hearing nurses
had to run to him with ambulance run assignments.
He didn't like the job because it required him to
work 24 hours every day. That deaf man is now 90
years old but remembers clearly these
ambulance-driving days!
-- deaf person barred from Bed and Breakfast inn
Jackie Locke, who is deaf, and her hearing friend,
wanted to spend a short vacation weekend at a Bed
and Breakfast place. The owner would not allow them,
and they are filing a discrimination complaint with
the local government. Why weren't they allowed? The
owner was afraid the deaf woman would make so much
noise in her room, thus disturbing the guests.
This incident took place in Great Britain.
