-- a double no-interpreter irony causes frustrations
a group of deaf people wanted to file a formal complaint
with a government agency about lack of interpreters on
local TV news programs. A meeting date was set up. But
this meeting was postponed for a big reason - no
interpreter showed up! It could only happen, not in USA,
but in Hong Kong, this cruel double no-interpreter irony!
-- our deaf friendly (and deaf unfriendly) restaurants
A wheelchair activist is pushing to have disabled, the
blind and the deaf use a new app to rate restaurants
as disability-friendly or disability-unfriendly. For
us, the deaf, a restaurant can be very unfriendly for
many reasons - without restaurant owners being aware
of it (and costing him money and deaf patrons). So
far, this activist has 10,000 reviews and 10,000 app
downloads.
-- a movie about a champion deaf athlete
Ashley Fiolek, who has not raced competitively in
motocross in about two years, is having a movie
about her championship feats. The name of the movie
is "Kicking Up Dirt" and it is being shot soon.
In her prime she has won four women's world motocross
championships, and stepped out, at the age of 21.
She is still making personal appearances at public
events.
