DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, March 1, 2016 -- deaf actress to perform on NBC Show "Good Place" Jameela Jamil, a young British actress, will be one of the co-stars on the new TV program - Good Place, along with Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. She plays the "Tessa" role, a party girl and loving attention. She was born deaf, but grew up as a functionally hearing; hint - another Katie Leclerc! The customer service reps would not accept her calls and told her to use voice instead. Even when her hearing 8 year old son explained that his mother was deaf, his explanation was ignored. This went on for six months until the Telestra CEO apologized to her. Said a leading deaf advocate: it was the worst example of discrimination   -- Toyota plant president signs in ASL Jim Bolte, not deaf, is the president of the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Birmingham. This factory has many deaf employees. He would often walk through the factory floor to chat in ASL with them! He is not a Coda. He was dating a hearing girl friend (now his wife) who was taking ASL classes in college.
