-- a hot issue right now in the Deaf Community
Are we happy with the interpreting agencies that get
interpreters for us? Do we have issues or complaints?
This is the issue that concerns the National Association
of the Deaf, the TDI, Inc and the Registry of Interpreters
for the Deaf. These three groups are working together
to see if complaints are valid or not valid.
-- a surprise about the closed Austine School for the Deaf
Austine School for the Deaf (Vermont) has closed for one
reason - lack of money. And there is a bad surprise - the
school owes the state 6 million dollars. As a result, the
state has seized the Austine land. But will the state
be able to get back the money? No one knows. This was the
big story in the Vermont newspapers today. Hopefully
this issue will be resolved and the school will reopen
in the near future. Deaf activists are not giving up.
-- a Wisconsin sports bar honors the deaf
Mid Town Pub is a popular hangout in Madison, Wisconsin
for patrons that follow sports - Green Bay Packers,
Milwaukee Brewers, University of Wisconsin, etc. There
is a pleasant surprise for the deaf inside the bar.
Finger spelling alphabet signs are pasted on the
ceiling. When one looks up the ceiling he can learn
how each letter is fingerspelled.
